About the event
This exhibit gives each of these longtime residents and artists of Okanogan county an opportunity to exhibit works both old and new, an individual mini retrospective. It is the opportunity to see how their work has evolved over the decades. Each of these artists have a different interpretation of our natural environment in North Central Washington; wood carvings, intimate photography of the flora, paintings of our expansive landscapes, rivers and mountains. Come immerse yourself in the beauty of Okanogan.
Artists:

Tug of War is a show composed of the hopes and fears felt by a collection of emergent artists at Okanogan High School. When visioning for this show in our Art II Classroom, students were asked, “what do you wish people knew about your personal experience as a teenager in Okanogan?” The answers were not clean cut–there was no easy way to communicate a personal narrative. Equal parts pressure to leave and pressure to stay and support families who need them, the OKHS art students wanted to express the burden of such heavy decisions. The Art II class looks toward honing their artistic voices as well as their work. From collaborative works to individual statements, all artwork has been done in the classroom, even if the majority of the mental composition was done outside of the classroom. From the reverence of the natural world and ancestral ties to yearning for larger opportunities outside of the Okanogan valley, our students attempted to encapsulate their experience to a greater audience.
